We are pleased to announce that the ANIBT Malaysian campus will be launching in January 2023. This is a fantastic opportunity for students in Malaysia to experience the Australian vocational education and training (VET) system. It also gives students the opportunity to gain qualifications that ANIBT will be running in Malaysia.

 

In Australia, after graduating from high school, students can choose between the VET stream or higher education.

 

The VET stream includes Certificate 1, Certificate 2, Certificate 3, Certificate 4, diploma, advanced diploma, and, in some cases, a vocational graduate diploma. Higher education, on the other hand, includes Bachelor’s degrees, graduate diplomas, Master’s degrees, and PhDs.

 

Unlike higher education, VET is based on students' acquiring and demonstration of relevant knowledge and skills. A VET course in Australia can be undertaken at a VET college or TAFE under the AQTF framework. Students must be able to demonstrate that they are able to perform certain criteria. They must also demonstrate that they can meet certain knowledge requirements. Unlike higher education, VET is not based on a points or percentage system. Students can either demonstrate that they can meet the performance or knowledge criteria, or they cannot. If a student can only demonstrate some of the criteria, they will be deemed “not yet competent” for that unit/ subject. Higher education differs because it is percentage or points based. This means that students only need to be able to demonstrate that they meet the criteria to a certain level.

 

In summary, VET can be more practical and therefore, it is geared towards people who prefer to obtain trade qualifications, such as chefs, builders, mechanics, plumbers and business managers. Higher education is more geared towards people who wish to go into professional careers such as nursing, teaching and accounting.
